GREATER AMBERJACK (Seriola dumerilii)
Powerful predator from the Carangidae family distibuted worldwide. Max. published size is 190 cm, weight 80 kg, in Mediterranean gains up to 60 kg. Average catch at trolling weigh about 5 kg. Inhabiting the open sea, gathers in the spring and approaches coastal water to spawn. After spawning, smaller groups of amberjacks travel along the coast and islands sporadically residing and feeding around reefs, capes and channels: prefers deep water and exposed coast. It's strong and tough fighter: fight with big amberjack at middleweight tackle can last for an hour. |
