LEERFISH (Lichia amia)

Member of the same family as greater amberjack (Carngidae), also known to the fishermen around the globe. In Adriatic can grow 150 cm long and weigh 30 kg, but average leerfish caught at trolling weigh about 5 kg. Unlike amberjack, leerfish is a shallow water specialist, most frequent around river inlets, shallow straits and harbours. Muddy and freshened water doesn't bother leerfish as long there is enough small fish which it hunts easily because it's faster than almost anything that swimms. When hooked, behaves similar to amberjack: if it matches the classs of your tackle, it will take some time before you even see it.
