TROLLING
The densest archipelago in the Mediterranean is the located in the eastern part of the Adriatic Sea. Thanks to highly preserved habitats and biodiversity, there is a wide range of opportunities for successful fishing, no matter which fishing technique you prefer: from coastal ligtweight angling to big game fishing. Among all traditional and nontraditional techniques one is especially popular because its dynamic and the prey is very attractive. It’s live bait deep trolling on common dentex, greater amberjack and leerfish. Numerous islets in the sea current, channels and reefs are natural habitat of those predators, and their prey is fish and cephalopods which are used as a live bait. FISHING TECHNIQUE
Deep trolling for greater amberjack, common dentex and leerfish means that live bait is being trolled at the speed about 1-2 knots at the positions and depths where the prey is expected. Many fish and cephalopod species can be used as the live bait, but needlefish (Belone belone) and squid (Loligo vulgaris) are preffered.
First you catch the bait, then you go trolling. Sometimes it's not so easy because on particular moments the bait is harder to catch than the main target. One thing is sure: this kind of «double» fishing makes this sport even more interesting and dynamic.
There are several techniques of catching bait and several techniques of deep trolling. Which of them to choose depends on the characteristics of the bottom at the fishing spot, the boat you fish from, and the fisherman's personal choice and habit… |
