COMMON DENTEX (Dentex dentex)

Many people consider it most appreciated fish in The Adriatic. Member of Sparidae family, max. published size is 100 cm, weight 14,3 kg. Average catch at trolling weigh about 2 kg. Lives solitary or in smaller shoals in the oxygen-rich water away from human presence, in The Mediterranean and Eastern Atlantic from British Isles to Senegal. Most frequent at the spots with stronger current: around flat capes exposed to open waters, in the channels between islets, within the rocky seaward reefs. Attacks explosively, often ambush, sometimes hunts in group. Hooked, it's strength diminishes soon after first runaway(s).
